That’s how much untreated storm water, with some raw sewage mixed in, was released in the San Francisco Bay Area from Dec. 30 to Jan. 3, according to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, as heavy rainfall overwhelms aging pipes and sewage systems. As local agencies report more data and heavy rains continue, that number is expected to soar.
